About the Author
Paul Wheeler BSC FBKS was trained at the BBC rising to become a Senior Drama Film Cameraman. Paul Shot one of the first BBC Drama Series to be photographed using the then new Digi Beta cameras, by which time he was freelance. He is a renowned cinematographer/director of photography and trainer, he has been Head of Cinematography at National Film & Television School and still runs courses on Digital Cinematography there. He has also been Head of Cinematography on the Royal College of Arts MA course. Paul was invited to become an associate of Panavision in order to help them introduce the Panavised version of Sony’s HDW 900f camera which meant he joined the HD movement 3 days before the first Panavision camera arrived in Europe. Despite all this he is still very much a working cinematographer. He has been twice nominated by BAFTA for a Best Cinematography award and also twice been the winner of the INDIE award for Best Digital Cinematography. His previous books, “Practical Cinematography” and “Digital cinematography”, are both published by the Focal Press.

It is almost impossible to gauge how people are going to react to things
you say. An innocent little remark can trigger a whole cascade of events.
Such was the case a few years ago when I introduced a segment on Reel
to Real's favorite martial arts movies with, "I have to admit, martial arts
films are a guilty pleasure of mine."

I recall the shoot day. It was a steamy hot August afternoon. We were
shooting outside and I was cooking inside my suit. We banged off the
intro in one take, and I didn't think about it again. Well, not until I
received the most aggressively angry letter I have ever gotten — possibly
one of the most hateful, profanity-laced pieces of mail to ever make
its way into my, or anybody else's, inbox. Everyone in the public eye has
gotten them. Usually the subject line reads something like "What were
you thinking?" or occasionally the blunt "You are wrong."
This one was different. I knew I was in trouble when I read the subject
line: RICHARD is A SNOB. Clearly, subtlety was not this writer's
strong point. What her letter lacked in sophistication, it made up in vitriol.
Here's the breakdown: After spending a paragraph or so calling me
some not-so-nice names and questioning my ability to review movies,
she got to the point. She was offended by my use of the term "guilty
pleasure." "What? Can't he just say he enjoys martial arts films? Why do
they have to be a 'guilty pleasure'? I really don't think he would say
something like 'I have to admit, those Fellini films are a guilty pleasure
of mine.'"
The unladylike dispatch went on to describe me as pretentious and
several other things that aren't fit to print here, before insisting that I
respond. I did reply, although I'm not sure she received the kind of
answer she was looking for. Her letter was clearly designed to offend
and upset; instead, I have to admit I found it rather funny. I was frankly

tickled that something I had said on television could elicit such venomous
feedback. As Frank Zappa said, "It doesn't matter what kind of
reaction you get, as long as you get a reaction." In my response I thanked
her for the letter and explained that I enjoy a wide variety of movies,
not just Fellini. I like Fellini; I think 81/2 is a great film, almost as good
as another favorite of mine, The Poseidon Adventure. You see, I
explained, I have to see between 300 and 325 movies a year for my job,
and when I sit down to view something that I am not professionally
obligated to watch I consider that a treat — a guilty pleasure. I listed a
few of the movies that I always turn to in my off hours — The Bad and
the Beautiful, Cane Toads: An Unnatural History, and Here Comes Mr.
Jordan — explaining why I liked each of them. I decided not to attack
her in any way, but to kill her with kindness.
I'm not sure what effect my e-mail had on her, as I never heard from
her again. I do, however, owe her a debt of gratitude. Her nasty letter got
me thinking about all the movies that I love — my guilty pleasures —
which led directly to the writing of this book. There were only two criteria
for the movies included in this book — they had to be underrated
and they had to be personal favorites of mine. These aren't really
obscure movies — most are available on DVD or video, although you
might need a police dog to find some of them — they are just films you
might have missed the first time around. If she hadn't written that letter,
I wouldn't have written this book. So it is to her, the pissed-off
viewer, that I dedicate this book.

Intel Core Microarchitecture, Arsitektur Terbaru dari Intel
Intel sebagai salah satu pemain utama dalam bisnis processor saat ini sedang mengembangkan microarchitecture baru yang diberi kode dengan Intel Core (perhatikan huruf besarnya, karena berbeda arti dengan “core”) untuk diimplementasikan ke dalam processor-processor generasi terbaru mereka yang akan diluncurkan pada tahun 2006 ini.

Processor tersebut adalah Conroe yang dipergunakan untuk desktop, Woodcrest digunakan untuk server, dan Merom digunakan untuk notebook. Pernyataan tersebut dikemukakan oleh Intel pada Intel Developer Forum (IDF) sekitar awal tahun 2006 yang lalu. Pernyataan tersebut diperkuat dengan adanya seminar pada 21 April 2006 lalu di Bangkok yang dihadiri oleh PC Media.

Pada seminar tersebut hadir sebagai pembicara adalah David “Dadi” Perlmutter. David adalah leader dalam pengembangan microarchitecture yang dipakai oleh processor-processor Intel mulai dari P5 (Pentium MMX) sampai dengan Banias (Pentium M dan Core Duo). Saat ini, David sendiri di Intel menjabat sebagai Senior Vice President & General Manager Intel Mobility Group.

Sejarah Singkat Teknologi Microarchitecture Intel

Microarchitecture generasi ke-5 dari Pentium kali pertama dipasarkan pada tahun 1993. Generasi tersebut adalah kelanjutan dari processor 80486 yang sebelumnya sukses merebut pasar processor diseluruh dunia. Teknologi arsitektur dari processor generasi kelima ini lebih dikenal dengan x86, di mana dalam perjalanannya arsitektur x86 tersebut diimplementasikan pada microarchitecture mulai dari P5 (Pentium), P6 (Pentium Pro, Pentium II & III), Intel NetBurst (Pentium 4, Pentium D dan Xeon), Banias (Pentium M, Core Duo), serta yang terbaru adalah Intel Core (Conroe, Woodcrest dan Merom).

Dalam perkembangannya, arsitektur x86 mengalami perubahan teknologi yang cukup signifi kan. Dari yang tadinya hanya mampu Intel Core Microarchitecture, Arsitektur Terbaru dari Intel berjalan pada clock sebesar 60 MHz (P5) sampai sekarang yang mampu berjalan pada clock sebesar 3.46 GHz (Intel NetBurst).

Selain itu, kebutuhan akan konsumsi daya juga semakin disempurnakan sehingga processor yang diciptakan hanya memerlukan sedikit daya untuk bisa bekerja secara optimal. Daya listrik yang dibutuhkan oleh generasi P5 adalah sekitar 5.0 Volt, sangat jauh jika dibandingkan dengan generasi Intel Core yang hanya membutuhkan sekitar 1.5 Volt untuk bisa menghasilkan performa yang maksimal.

Teknologi di Dalam Core Microarchitecture
Cukup banyak teknologi baru yang ditawarkan oleh Core microarchitecure ini jika dibandingkan dengan microarchitecure generasi sebelumnya, yaitu NetBurst. Kita ambil saja contoh processor dual-core Conroe yang akan segera beredar di pasaran.

Conroe sudah memakai Intel Core microarchitecture, teknologi arsitektur terbaru dari Intel. Arsitektur Core didesain untuk bisa berjalan secara efi sien ketika dijalankan pada clock speed yang sangat rendah. Hal tersebut berlawanan dengan arsitektur NetBurst yang didesain untuk berjalan pada frekuensi yang sangat tinggi. Di mana perbedaan ini bisa terlihat dalam processor Pentium D dan Pentium 4 (NetBurst) yang memerlukan 2 clock cycles untuk menyelesaikan 1 instruksi SSE, sedangkan Conroe (Core) hanya memerlukan 1 clock cycles untuk menyelesaikannya.

Teknologi tersebut diberi nama dengan Advanced Digital Media Boost. Teknologi lain yang dimiliki oleh Core microachitecture diberi nama Wide Dynamic Execution: Macro Fusion. Teknologi ini mampu menggabungkan dua atau lebih instruksi menjadi satu pada saat predecode kemudian mengirimnya ke dalam sebuah decoder yang akan menerjemahkan instruksi-instruksi tersebut menjadi sebuah bentuk micro-ops.

Dengan teknologi tersebut, tugas dari processor untuk me-load instruksi akan berkurang sekitar 15% dan kebutuhan akan suplai daya akan berkurang sampai 10%. Core microarchitecture juga didesain lebih lebar daripada NetBurst, yang berarti ia bisa memproses sampai empat buah instruksi setiap clock cycle-nya dibandingkan dengan NetBurst yang hanya mampu memproses tiga buah instruksi untuk setiap clock cycle-nya.

Persentase bandwidth yang diperoleh adalah 33%, namun akan memperoleh peak sebesar 66% ketika penggabungan instruksi dengan teknologi Macro Fusion terjadi pada sebuah processor Conroe.

Selain itu, teknologi Intelligent Power Capability juga disertakan dalam Core microarchitecture tersebut. Seperti yang sudah dijelaskan sebelumnya, microarchitecture ini mempunyai kelebihan akan konsumsi daya yang diperlukan. Karena daya tersebut akan diterima dan difungsikan secara optimal oleh processor Conroe tersebut. Hal ini bisa dirasakan jika Anda menggunakan laptop dengan processor ini, baterai Anda akan bisa bertahan lebih lama karena daya yang diserap oleh processor ini sangat kecil.

Jika pada NetBurst sudah ada teknologi Smart Cache, Core juga mempunyai teknologi yang diberi nama Advanced Smart Cache. Teknologi ini tentunya lebih bagus dari pendahulunya. Pada Advanced Smart Cache, L2 cache-nya bekerja secara dynamic sehingga antara L1 Cache bisa berbagi pekerjaan dengan L2 Cache, di mana hal tersebut tidak dapat dilakukan pada Smart Cache (NetBurst) yang L2 cache-nya bekerja secara independen.

Dengan menggunakan teknologi ini, bukan hanya trafi k pertukaran data saja yang akan berlangsung lebih cepat, Anda juga akan mendapatkan cache yang lebih tinggi, mengurangi trafi k dari BUS dan latency data yang lebih rendah.

Tidak lupa Intel juga menyertakan teknologi Smart Memory Access: With Memory Disambiguation. Teknologi ini digunakan untuk menyembunyikan latency ke dalam subsystem memory dan jika dibutuhkan, instruksi data dari memory tersebut dapat di-load secara cepat jika dibutuhkan tanpa harus menunggu antrian terlebih dahulu.

Dengan segala kelebihan teknologi yang sudah disebutkan, Intel berani mengklaim Core microarchitecture tersebut mampu mengalahkan pesaingnya, di mana processor Conroe yang memakai Core microarchitecture dengan clock sebesar 2.66 GHz, FSB 1066 MHz, dan mempunyai Smart Cache 4 MB, mampu mengungguli AMD yang memakai dual core 2.6 GHz Athlon 64 FX-60. Bahkan Conroe mampu mengungguli Athlon 64 FX-60 yang sudah di-overclock menjadi 2.8 GHz.

Sequel dari Conroe
Pada Intel Development Forum, pihak Intel menyatakan bahwa pada tahun 2007 akan kembali meluncurkan processor terbarunya. Microarchitecture yang dipakai masih mengandalkan Intel Core, namun perbedaanya terletak pada core processor-nya. Tidak tanggung-tanggung, Intel memasukkan sepasang dual-core Conroe ke dalam sebuah processor. Ini berarti core yang dimiliki processor tersebut adalah empat buah yang terdiri dari dua buah dual-core atau disebut dengan quad-core. Processor itu sendiri akan diberi kode nama Kentfi eld untuk desktop dan Clovertown untuk server. Processor ini diharapkan mampu diterima pasar pada awal tahun 2007 dan mampu mengulang sukses dari processor-processor Intel generasi sebelumnya.

Lalu, sampai di manakah pengembangan dari AMD saat ini? Apakah mereka akan melakukan hal yang sama dengan memperbaiki teknologi prosesornya, atau malah melakukan perubahan yang lebih “ekstrem”? Kita tunggu terobosan baru yang akan dilakukan oleh AMD. Namun, satu hal yang pasti dan sudah dibuktikan oleh Intel bahwa logo terbaru dari Intel memang tidak salah, “Intel Leap Ahead”.

Word dan Excel terinfeksi virus ? Data Hilang?

Beberapa waktu lalu file dokumen ( Ms Word dan Excel ) teman-teman disini terkena virus. Setiap dibuka folder yang berisi file ber-ekstensi *.doc dn *.xls maka file tersebut akan berubah menjadi virus ( ber-ekstensi *.exe ) dan jika dipaksa dibuka dengan word/excel maka tampilannya akan kacau balau. Akhirnya beberapa teman menghapus file tersebut, yang sebenarnya merupakan file yang cukup penting. Karena ukuran dan ciri virus ( signature ) tidak tetap, maka berbagai anti virus yang sudah dicoba tidak bisa mendeteksi, walau dengan update terbaru.

Setelah melihat sendiri file yang terinfeksi virus, sebenarnya si pembuat virus tidak terlalu “jahat”, karena dokumen itu masih bisa di selamatkan 100%. Virus itu hanya menambahkan file dokumen ke dalam dirinya sendiri sehingga ukurannya berbeda-beda sesuai dengan ukuran file. Terus bagaimana cara menyelamatkan dokumennya ?

Buka file yang terinfeksi virus dengan aplikasi Hex Editor, jika belum punya silahkan download Hexapad ( 180 KB), mungkin free Hex editor yang terkecil, karena hanya 82 KB tapi dengan berbagai fasilitas dan bahkan source codenya disertakan.
Buka juga file *.doc atau *.xls yang tidak terkena virus (jika tidak ada silahkan membuat file doc atau xls baru ) dengan hexapad.
Ada tiga bagian di tampilan hexapad. Mulai dari kiri adalah offset ( alamat kode ), Kode ( dalam bilangan Hexadesimal ) dan paling kanan adalah kode dalam text.
Coba perhatikan awal kode antara file yang terinfeksi virus dan yang asli. File yang terinfeksi diawali dengan kode hex = 4D 5A … ( text : MZ …) dan file asli Hex = D0 CF 11 E0 A1 … (ÐÏ.à¡±.á … ). Masing-masing merupakan bagian dari header file yang selalu sama. kode MZ untuk file seperti *.exe dan *.dll.
Karena header file asli sudah tahu, maka selanjutnya tinggal mencari kode D0 CF 11 E0 A1 ( sepertinya 3 kode awal sudah cukup ) di file yang terinfeksi virus. caranya buka pencarian ( Ctrl+F) dan isikan di bagian Kode nilai D0 CF 11 E0 A1 ( beri spasi antar kode ). dan klik search.
Setelah ditemukan maka itulah awal file doc atau xls-nya. Tinggal memilih kode mulai dari kode sebelum D0 CF … sampai awal kode dan hapus. Kemudian save as dengan ekstensi yang sesuai doc / xls.

Langkah-langkah diatas dapat dilakukan jika file yang terinfeksi tidak banyak, tetapi jika filenya banyak tentu sangat menyita waktu. Misalnya ketika disini file yang terinfeksi 200 lebih, maka diperlukan tool/ program khusus untuk merecovery file tersebut. Jika anda memerlukan bantuan silahkan email saja.

Ini adalah foto kenangan bersama beliau, waktu itu kami baru saja pulang dari pantai Lhoknga, banyak yang kami lakukan disana, mulai dari latihan pernafasan sampai akting.

OK..the first thing that you need to do is create a favicon.ico with any software, Well done....you're nearly there.

Now you need to upload it to the root directory of your hosting space.

Most browsers will automatically detect and use the favicon.ico file, even on pages that are written in PHP, ASP, etc.

It has been suggested that both of the following HTML lines should be included:

(and obviously you'd replace favicon.co.uk with your website address)

However, only the former is necessary, as "shortcut icon" will be treated as a list of possibilities by standards-compliant browsers (with "shortcut" being ignored, and "icon" used); while Internet Explorer will treat it as a single name ("shortcut icon"). The result is that all browsers understand the code. It is only necessary to include a second piece of code if one desires to offer an alternative image to modern browsers (e.g. an animated GIF).
The link elements must be inside the head element (between and ) in the HTML.
For XHTML, the link element must be terminated by " />" instead of ">".
The href can, but need not, point to the location /favicon.ico. It could equally well point anywhere else on your site that is convenient.
The image can usually be in any image format supported by the web browser, the major exception being Internet Explorer, which only supports ICO.

If you have older version of Quicktime player or still have problems with playing 3gp files then just download and
install Quicktime Alternative: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm.

1. Open a .3gp movie in QuickTime Player.
2. Press File -> Export.
3. Enter filename.
4. Choose type of output file (Export: Movie to AVI (.AVI) or Movie to Quicktime Movie (.MOV)).
5. For AVI: press Options -> Video Settings -> choose DV - PAL (for better quality of re-compression).
6. Click Save! That's all.

3. Type in "cmd" and click OK to display the dos window
4. If you're not in C:\> go to C:\> by typing "c:" followed by Enter
5. In C:\> go to C:\3gpToRawAvi> by typing "cd 3gpToRawAvi" followed by Enter
6. In C:\3gpToRawAvi> type "3gptorawavi -o " followed by Enter
Note: Replace with the .3gp file name without the .3pg extension and with the
.avi file name of your choice. Eg. "3gptorawavi Video1 -o Video2"
7. The new raw avi file will be placed in the same folder.

Note: A bit of experimentation shows that, on XP anyway, 3gpToRawAvi won't work if it's folder, or any of it's parent folders
have a space in the name. For instance if 3gpToRawAvi is in "D:\documents and settings\" or in any folder
within "D:\documents and settings\" then you'll get an error when you try to run it.

Done.

Run the program from C:\example. Where example is whatever u choose to call the folder but it can't have spaces in it.
Then select a .3gp source file, select an .avi filename and click Convert.
The 3gp and avi file's folders or paths can't have spaces either.

- A RAW avi file is pretty big! (a 10 sec movie is about 3.5 MB!)
So to make a RAW avi file more user friendly you'll have to convert it to DivX!:

Get the VirtualDub video converter here: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net (free).
Install and launch it (just extract all files to a folder and run the virtualdub.exe).

Open the Videoclip that you want to convert, File->Open video file.
Select under Video->Fast recompress.
Select under Audio->Full processing.
Select Video->Compression and select a codec you want to use.
Select Audio->Compression (MPEG Layer-3 is most common).
And last hit File->Save AVI.

Now the file size of a 10 sec movie should be around 380kB.
